SIT4Energy Pilots

Pilot 1: Residential Facilities – Haßfurt, Germany
The German pilot will be organized and run in the town of Haßfurt whose energy needs are fully provided by SHF as its municipal utility. The pilot will include utility employees and a sample of residential prosumer-customers served by SHF. Extended metering infrastructure will allow the collection of energy-related information from the selected end-users, both in terms of consumption and generation, towards extracting meaningful local consumption-production patterns. These patterns are expected to lead into identifying untapped flexibility while also increasing customer engagements and loyalty. SHF thus aims at using the results of the pilot to learn about, develop and exploit new IT-enabled services and solutions for integrated energy management in consumer/prosumer scenarios, to improve their existing operations and stimulate further business development by exploiting efficiency potentials in the local energy production and consumption.

Pilot 2: HUA Facilities – Athens, Greece
The Greek pilot in an academic campus aims at validating the SIT4Energy platform within a large building at Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) campus including amphitheaters, offices, and laboratories with approximately 1000m2 common area. Electricity and Gas smart meters (SMETS2 specification) installed on site, provide detailed information regarding energy consumption of the pilot’s assets. The academic campus may be a suitable mean for validation of the SIT4energy platform as it has a substantial experience in contributing and addressing the challenge of creating a sustainable, affordable and efficient energy systems and services. For many years it has been supporting a range of sustainable energy alternatives, smart energy services, their enabling infrastructure, and their effective demonstration and deployment. In the frame of SIT4Energy the role of HUA will be the validation of the platform meanwhile providing accurate and easily accessible information toward the academy members/personnel. The validation will be carried out via questionnaires by disseminating the outcome of the project towards HUA academy members/staff including at least 150 researchers, engineers, faculty/administrative, and laboratory personnel. In this respect the questionnaire will be an efficient tool for collecting information, attitudes, opinions and monitoring the project progress and outcome towards Greek Academic Staff. In overall, the scope of this use case will be to enhance the consumers’ (Greek academic staff/administration) perception and awareness towards adapting smart energy services by introducing and offering the actual benefits of SIT4Energy eco-platform. Moreover this use case will validate the developed platform and the results obtained from online survey will be an important approval for further action plans toward the smart energy services’ market.

Pilot 3: CERTH, Smart House – Thessaloniki, Greece
The CERTH/ITI Lab operates a fully functional and well-equipped Laboratory that serves as a reference for many applications and demonstration facilities especially in the fields of sensor-based monitoring environments, simulation platform developments, big data visualisation and analysis, User Modelling, Interoperable ICT, Energy and IoT applications, etc. The CERTH/ITI provides the test bed Infrastructure for virtual demonstration consisting of two separate buildings, both located into CERTH premises, namely the ITI Building and the CERTH/ITI nZEB Smart House. Both these buildings will be mostly used as initial demo sites for deployment, evaluation and validation of first versions of the SIT4Energy solutions. With more than 50 end-users, covering both tertiary and residential scenarios, the CERTH/ITI Lab will provide the necessary infrastructure to validate the SIT4Energy products prior and during the deployment to the other two pilot sites.
